stuck in a rut

Do you ever go through those periods where you just feel like mush? I am stuck in a rut, I guess. I am plodding along doing the bare minimum as far as work and commitments and spending a lot of time accomplishing nothing. Nothing seems to inspire me or excite me. I have tried working in my journal, sitting in my studio and fiddling with stuff, working on design projects and all to no avail. My muse must have fled for the hills.

Hannah Grey Booth set up
The closest I have come to igniting my inspiration was this past weekend when I helped Shosh set up a vendor booth at the Original Rubber Stamp show in San Jose. Mike and I stayed up til nearly 3 am working on displays and then we all got up at 7 am to get coffee and put final touches on the booth before the show opened at 9. Mike shot a couple of pix while we were setting up with my camera, so these aren't the finished product but pretty close. Overall the booth did very well and Shosh & Mike were pleased and excited. I hope I helped them to figure out the ins and outs of doing shows as I have TONS of them under my belt. They will also be vending at the fall stamp show and the ZNE show in August and I hope to be helping. To check out more on this fun show, visit Hannah Grey's blog.

Not much else to report right now. As I said I am trying to bust out of my artsy funk. Maybe I need to find just the right swap inspire me. I recently got my panels back from Karla & Beth's Birds & Bonnets swap which inspired me tremendously. I loved working with the images supplied by The Vintage Workshop.

But unfortunately I did not fare so well in Heather's journal swap as I never got anything back. Bummer. Ok, I am off to drink more coffee and look for some inspiration....

  3. Heather, I'm sorry you are in a rut. Danielle (The Vintage Dragonfly Studio) is having a Beachcombing Treasures Swap and Sherry (If I Could Set My Soul Free) is hosting a Wizard of Oz Swap. I'm sorry you never got a journal. That sucks. You are a really nice lady and that shouldn't happen to anyone, let alone you.

  6. Go for a drive, buy yourself the biggest box of crayons you can find and color, stand on your porch and feel the wind sweep across your face like a lover's hands.

  7. Heather,
Hang in there. I am all too familiar with the "rut thing" having just come out of it myself. It was a very long 3 months or so. Ugh... But, here I am out of the rut and feeling like I am back 100%. One day I woke up and everything seemed different and the rut was gone. Who knows why. So, I just signed up for a swap to get back into the swing of things. The arttechniques yahoo group still has openings for a skinny book swap due in August....

  11. Heather - I'm there with 'ya... it doesn't help that our 'spring' here in MT has consisted of rain and very cold temps (32 tonight) for the past 30 days or more - no sun and a chance of SNOW... I have no desire to create... I'm planning a quick trip down to Yellowstone Park tomorrow (only 90 miles away). Maybe I'll get some inspiration there! Yes, a swap would be great. I've done a few small swaps lately but I'm ready for something grand! Hang in there! Jamie V
