I don't remember where I got the recommendation for this book but I did get one and ordered it from my paper back swap group : PaperBackSwap.com.
I just finished it last night and I LOVED IT!! I have always had a fascination with India so this book was a treat. It is a fictional account of a story based on historical facts. Since the main character, Mehrunnisa, also known as Nur Jahan is a woman and it is set in the 1500 and 1600's there isn't much historical documentation recorded. The authoress, Indu Sundaresan uses her extensive research and her imagination to "read between the lines" and fill in the blanks as to what this woman would probably have been doing and thinking at various points in her life. As I got closer to the end of the novel I didn't want it to end so I was relieved to find that is a sequel to the book entitled The Feast of Roses, which is on my wish list queue at PaperBackSwap. If you are looking for an interesting book... check this one out!!Next on my list: The Other Boleyn Girl.

ReplyDeleteI think it was me. I LOVED this book. The sequel isn't quite as good but still a good read. You recommended The Time Traveler's Wife for me and I LOVED that one. Fair is fair. lol.
ReplyDeleteI love books set in India too. I will put this one on my list. My favorite book of all time is set in India....A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Also, I love Sister of My Heart by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Both are must reads!
